Ricoleta

The Plaza Alvear

This plaza is the heart of Recoleta, and a fun place to explore and relax. This is the Iglesia de Nuestra Senora del Pilar, built in 1732. The weekend arts and crafts fair is off to the right.

Still beautiful inside.

The arts and crafts fair spralls all across the large park area.

Many booths offering neat hand made items. These are finger dolls of every sort. We brought back about a dozen for grandkids.

This is the giant gum tree right behind the famous sidewalk cafe, the Cafe la Biela. The tree has a span of hundreds of feet.

The Cafe la Biela was a frequent stop for us both for lunch and for drinks.

Another sidewalk cafe across the street.

The Cemetery

The Recoleta cemetery has become a popular tourist spot. This is where most of the famous persons in Argentinian history are buried.

Very ornate family masoleums.

Probably the most famous masoleum is this, where Evita Peron is interred.

Walking Around

My favorite pastime is just strolling through the various neighborhoods and looking at everything. Recoleta is our favorite barrio, but there are many equally as nice.

Typical tree-lined streets make walking on sunny days very pleasant.

There are many beautiful old buildings.

This is my favorite park, the Plaza Vincinte Lopez located on Calle Parana.

Like most large parks, there is underground parking below. Local flower stand greets arriving pedestrians.

Covering several blocks, the park offers many spots for sitting and doing nothing.

At the far corner of the Plaza Vincinte Lopez, the Calle V. Lopez heads east.

One of our favorite spots for dinner is this corner cafe, the Mala Carta. Only a block from our hotel on Calle Parana, it has superb food complemented by an excellent wine celler. This is where we discovered the Catena Zapata Saint Felicien Sauvignon Blanc, a truely wonderful wine. Not available in the States.
